Support my swim for youth mental health

I'm taking part in the LAP it UP swim challenge to raise awareness and funds for Live4Life’s mental health education and youth suicide prevention model.

Live4Life builds the capacity of young people to recognise, seek and offer help for mental health concerns and it also builds the capacity of the whole community to look after and support their young people.

It engages young people, school staff, parents, carers and the broader community in evidence-based mental health education.

Please support my LAP it UP swim challenge - your donation will help more young people to receive vital mental health education and will help save lives!

Thank you

Inspiration to help motivate me

Sunday 21st Sep
I’ve decided to jump back in the pool after sometime off and what a great motivator is it having the support from your donations going to a cause that touches my heart.

Most know I’m a nurse, but what many don’t know is that I suffer from PTSD and MADD. I have recently been fighting my own personal battles and when a close friends told me about this challenge I had to get on board. Youth suicide is the highest form of death for youth…. This needs to change, we are slowly changing the stigma but are we changing the understanding of what and how mental health affects those who suffer? I strongly believe suicide is not a choice, it’s an illness we often miss, we don’t see and is extremely difficult treat.

We all know someone who is affected, youth included ,mental health doesn’t discriminate by age..in 2001 the person who got me into swimming and my childhood best friend took her own life… I often wonder if things were different or if we understood more could she still be with us today!? She was beautiful, strong and inspiring, she was not one to show her pain…how long did she suffer in silence?

Youth should be out enjoying their lives, learning, growing, making memories…… not saying goodbye to friends, or fighting an invisible battle alone..

There are so many other reasons I am doing however  I’ll keep private out of respect for those who don’t need me to share their stories, but hope they know they are also my inspiration.

Thank you so much for those who believe in me and have already donated xxx
