About Lap it Up

EVENT HISTORY

In 2018, father and daughter team Sean and Kirsten McKinney hosted a 2866-lap swim at their local pool in Gisborne — one lap for every life lost to suicide in the previous year. What began as a heartfelt community effort has since grown into a powerful national campaign.

Today, Youth Live4Life proudly continues the McKinneys' legacy through our annual event, LAP it UP — promoting connection, resilience, and mental wellbeing in communities across Australia.

All funds raised support Live4Life, our award-winning, evidence-based mental health education and youth suicide prevention program for rural and regional communities.

LAP it UP - TODAY

LAP it UP is a four-week fitness and fundraising challenge running from 1–28 October 2025, where every lap you swim helps change lives. Whether you're swimming in the ocean, a pool, or even a backyard wading pool — if you're moving, you're making a difference.

You choose the distance, location, and pace. Every splash counts.

Since its grassroots beginnings, LAP it UP has become a nationwide movement, with participants across all major cities and states. In 2024 alone, our amazing community raised over $90,000 to support young people’s mental health.

Entry is FREE – so register today, dive in, and swim for change.
