Laps

320

I’m swimming for mental health and suicide prevention.

I'm taking part in the LAP it UP swim challenge to raise awareness and funds for Live4Life’s mental health education and youth suicide prevention model. I will be swimming 320 laps (8km) over the month of October. I wanted to set myself a challenge with my swimming since starting to go regularly in August and I currently am only doing around 5-10 laps a session …. To achieve this goal I will need to up that to 15-20 laps! Definitely a challenge but one worth doing!

Live4Life builds the capacity of young people to recognise, seek and offer help for mental health concerns and it also builds the capacity of the whole community to look after and support their young people.

It engages young people, school staff, parents, carers and the broader community in evidence-based mental health education.

Please support my LAP it UP swim challenge - your donation will help more young people to receive vital mental health education and will help save lives!

Thank you

My Updates

I can see the finish line

Sunday 19th Oct

When I first signed up, I could barely swim 10 laps — but I wanted to challenge myself.

Today, I was tired. Halfway to my goal, I started to worry about making it to 320 laps. People kept telling me I needed to pick up the pace whenever I mentioned my progress, which only added to the pressure. My arms were sore, my neck hurt, and honestly, I didn’t feel great.

The first 30 laps were tough. I kept switching between backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle — even throwing in a few side strokes just to keep myself going. But once I hit that 30-lap mark, something shifted. I found a new gear and started to trust myself.

I finished with 62 laps — a new personal best! 🏊‍♀️

I couldn’t be prouder of how far I’ve come, and it’s all been worth it for such a meaningful cause. 💙
