Support my swim for youth mental health

I am pulling my cap and goggles out of retirement to take part in the LAP it UP swim challenge to raise awareness and funds for Live4Life’s mental health education and youth suicide prevention model.


Live4Life builds the capacity of young people to recognise, seek and offer help for mental health concerns and it also builds the capacity of the whole community to look after and support their young people.

It engages young people, school staff, parents, carers and the broader community in evidence-based mental health education.

It’s officially October AKA ‘spooky season’ and the challenge is on! 

Nothing scarier than the rude shock of me looking bald in a cap again so enjoy the snapshots! While I go soak myself in some magnesium cause I forgot how exhausting swimming is!!!

For everyone else, it’s not too late to donate!!! If you want to see me make it to 1000 laps this month!!! Every dollar helps ensure that every child regardless of their location has access to youth friendly mental health support!!!!

I have lived in the water for as long as I can remember... My family always called me their little mermaid because I took to the water like a duck, when on land I looked more like a clumsy giraffe...

I spent my whole childhood and teens swimming, surfing, rowing, and playing water polo... I hated being out of the water too long, it felt like I couldn't breathe. 

But when my own mental health took a tumble and my anxiety started to attack my life, the first thing it took from me was my love of the water and all things to do with it... I am incredibly lucky that living in a big city meant I had access to support services, but even then it can be so hard to find safe youth-friendly spaces to unpack your struggles in. And out in rural and regional towns, that challenge is 100 times greater. 

So I am taking part in the LapItUp fundraiser to not only take back a part of my life I miss so dearly that was so critical to my own mental health, but to support initiatives that will create meaningful change in mental health services available to young people across all regions of Australia.
