Support my swim for youth mental health

I'm taking part in the LAP it UP swim challenge to raise awareness and funds for Live4Life’s mental health education and youth suicide prevention model.

Live4Life builds the capacity of young people to recognise, seek and offer help for mental health concerns and it also builds the capacity of the whole community to look after and support their young people.

It engages young people, school staff, parents, carers and the broader community in evidence-based mental health education.

Please support my LAP it UP swim challenge - your donation will help more young people to receive vital mental health education and will help save lives!

Thank you

Libra New Moon Goofin'

Saturday 10th Oct
Worst to ever do it, And that's ok! What's important is doing it anyway. I do hope that no one does anything nasty in the rooftop pool bc I genuinely think i drank about half of it.

My love of the game will simply have to be bigger than my ooch and ouch

Next week is the halfway of the month and I am having a lot of feelings and emotions. It is the new moon in Libra afterall and I do unfortunately feel it in my Libra bones.

It is also World Mental Health Day! So it is important now more than ever to show up and do what I can to make it matter! To remember that despite the pain and discomfort that I can and will continue. That time will pass regardless and even if i don't want to, I have to choose to.

Mental health can be a struggle for everyone regardless of background, but can be particularly difficult for those with limited access to the support and resources they need. This is even more a reality for young people in rural and regional areas. As such, it is important that if you or someone you love and care about is struggling with mental health that you reach out to a trusted friend or medical professional. Here are a few resources to help you or someone you love connect with the support and help they need:

Lifeline Australia

Kids Helpline
1800 55 1800
https://www.kidshelpline.com.au/

Beyond Blue

Headspace
1800 65 0890
https://headspace.org.au/

Black Dog Institute
https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/
(Not a crisis centre but has a lot of programs and information for support!)

It can be daunting, intimidating, embarrassing or just difficult to admit that support is needed. Sometimes your mind just works against you, but no one deserves to feel isolated and alone. I am so incredibly grateful to be in a position where support can be so accessible and available to me, and I want to use this privilege to make that support available to rural and regional communities. So I want to say Thank You again and again and again to everyone that has supported me and donated to this cause! I will remain committed and make the most of this!

Feverish and Forsaken

Thursday 8th Oct
But we persist, especially now that we have reached the goal!

My body is so tired and achey and this migraine has not shifted despite downing 2 panadols but I wanted to prove to myself that making time to move will be worth it in the end. Plus I cannot stop the thoughts in my mind and what better way to wash those thoughts out than with a swim.

Thank you again to everyone who has donated and got me to the goal way ahead of time! We are simply not done yet! And i will get these laps out, bum knee and sciatica be damned.

GOOOOAAAAALLL

Sunday 4th Oct
Big sports fan over here

Huge news of getting to the 100% goal and we're not even a quarter of the way through the month! So massive thanks to everyone who has supported me and donated to this! It means the world to me that I have such a kind and generous support system around me that believes in me and this cause. So in case I haven't said it enough already, thank you thank you thank you!

This also means from now on that the major updates will be my epic highs and lows of highschool football (and swimming on the field, of course)

I'm feeling good about the swimming despite the nerve hip pain which will be followed up with a GP visit

I think I can commit to the Saturday and Sunday morning ritual swims for now as well which I think will be a good thing for my mental and physical

Trying to remember I can only do so much. I may have been hit by a car and lived, but that doesn't mean I'm invincible (despite what my ego may think)

Let's Keep This Party Going!

Saturday 3rd Oct
Can't lie, this one hurt a lot! But the silver lining is that it will get better if I keep showing up for myself (that one's a Yogi Cam special).

Once again proving that I like a morning exercise! Actually, it still might just be the fact that it's quiet. Or maybe, third alternative is that it's both.

Either way, that's progress babey!

3 days in and we're already at the Halfway Donation mark!! Insane!! I love my friends for their belief in me and all the support!!!

Triumphant Return to the Water

Thursday 1st Oct
I still got it!
Mind you, a lot more sore than I probably would've been before but a win is a win!
Lovely day for a swim and incredibly needed.
Lap it Up Challenge has started!

Absolutely Mental

Friday 25th Sep
Recent circumstances have somewhat led to my reduction in swimming lately but also will be my redemption and return to the water!

My physio has highly endorsed my return to swimming or any water based activities and considering I'm paying out the nose for a very lovely gym with a rooftop pool, I should very much get back in to it. Not to mention obviously the good it will bring for raising money and awareness around mental health and probably do wonders for my own physical health. What better time to prioritise this with summer coming back into full force seemingly all at once!

Once again bringing up being inspired by Stella and their own running journey. Keen to follow along with their progress. They have already come so far and I am incredibly proud of them! And selfishly I want in on that action, too.

Stay tuned !
