MEET SUE!

Sue Wright, our LAP it UP Champion from Daylesford in the Hepburn Shire, has always loved the water and learnt to swim at Surrey Park in the early 60s. She went on to compete with various clubs in Melbourne and represented Victoria!

Sue enjoys swimming because doing laps improves her sense of wellbeing.

Now that I’m older, it is a well-honed skill that keeps me moving without huge stress on my body,” she says. “I swim three times a week and I’m always energised after my laps.”

Last year, Sue saw the LAP it UP poster in the change rooms at the Kyneton Aquatic Centre and decided to make a splash! She achieved her goals — and then some! She also won our Apple Watch competition which was a huge surprise.

“Knowing how swimming helps me, I thought it was one way I could help to raise funds and awareness of issues around youth mental health amongst my friends.”

Participating in LAP it UP also gave her time to reflect…"My Mum passed away just before so it was a great focus for me and burnt up a lot of energy!” she says. “With your head in the water, it is a great time to meditate on life as well as being in the moment".

Sue’s goals for LAP it UP 2023? She’s looking forward to upping her number of laps, raising more money and watching the leaderboard! “That was fun, seeing everyone meet their goals.”

See you in the pool, Sue!
